A new auction record has been set for any painting by a Scottish Colourist after Tulips by Samuel John Peploe (1871-1935) sold for £520,000, against a £300,000-500,000 pre-sale estimate, at Sotheby's on April 22.
The previous record for a Peploe was £440,000 for Roses at Christie’s Scottish art sale in Edinburgh in 2008.
The circa 1912 oil on canvas was painted when Peploe had a studio in Paris.
