When British artist Lucian Freud died in 2011 he left behind a fortune of £95.9m. He was also survived by 14 children, several of whom had been 'forgotten.' Just one of his children was given control of a secret trust fund.

After tax and legacies, Freud's fortune came to £42 million and he put this in a trust run by Diana Rawstron, a solicitor, and Rose Pearce, one of his daughters. (Nothing was given to Freud's other 13 children.)

His son, Paul Freud, 55, who was abandoned by Freud throughout childhood, is now questioning the legality of the trust in High Court. Paul, also an artist, contends that there are not known instructions with the trust, and it is not subject to any will. He wants his share of the £42 million.

Rawstron and Pearce are looking for the judge to rule that they are “both absolutely entitled” to the remainder of the estate.
