Murdered Art Forger's Work Up for Auction in UK
- June 01, 2015 12:35
Master forger Eric Hebborn duped museums, galleries, and auction houses worldwide with his drawings and paintings in the styles of Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Claude, Augustus John and others, sold as originals by the artists. Hebborn's con worked for nearly two decades until a National Gallery of Art (DC) curator discovered his ruse.
Now, Webbs of Wilton auctioneers in the UK is selling a collection of 23 drawings and three oils by Hebbron. The "fakes" are expected to fetch £10,000 on Wednesday.
Hebborn was brutally murdered in Rome nearly 20 years ago. The case is unsolved.
