A tiny, discolored painting found by auctioneer John Nye of Nye & Co. in the basement of New Jersey home turned out to be worth far more than its $500 - $800 estimate. Art blogger Bendor Grosvenor first noted the possible significance of the work up for sale.

A pair of Paris art dealers won the painting after a bidding battle and were immediately approached by New York financier Thomas Kaplan and his wife, Daphne, who own The Leiden Collection.
The Leiden Collection, one of the best private assemblages of Dutch Golden Age art, is loaning the work for a reunion of Rembrandt’s Senses series, shown alongside other paintings by Rembrandt, at the Getty Center from May 11 to August 28, 2016, in The Promise of Youth: Rembrandt’s Senses Rediscovered
