Public Art Canceled Just Prior to Rio Olympics

Brazil's culture minister Marcelo Calero has cancelled some of the art program timed for the 2016 Rio Olympics due to budget cuts.
The latest casualty is Italian artist Giancarlo Neri's Bar Paris, featuring 1,415 lighted chairs, which was to be installed in the Glória neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro -- to the tune of 632,000 reais (around $200,000). The budget was set to cover installation, security and other costs.
Earlier this year, a faltering economy was blamed for Brazil's attempt to shut down the Ministry of Culture.
