Monet Haystack Brings the Impressionist's Record Price of $110.7 Million

An 1890 painting from the iconic haystack series by Claude Monet brought $110.7 million (with fees) at Sotheby’s in New York on Tuesday, setting a record for the Impressionist painter.
“Les Meules,” estimated to bring $55 million, went to a bidder on the floor after a near-8 minute battle.
Monet's previous record was $84.7 million, for a water lilies work that sold at Christie’s last year.
