NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Clare Holzer in On Earth and Elsewhere. The exhibition opens January 4 and runs through January 24, 2019 with an opening reception on Thursday, January 10 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.
About the Artist
Clare Holzer is an artist who lives in downtown Los Angeles, a city that she finds endlessly inspiring. In her paintings, she strives to express the sense of place. An extremely gifted colorist, Holzer is able to take a seemingly unremarkable, mundane subject matter and depict it with great feeling. Nostalgic reverie permeates paintings of a restaurant’s glowing window (Good Girl Dinette), a food truck (Danny’s Tacos), or a late night bus traveling down a dark street (Night Bus). Holzer writes that for her the feeling of a place is connected to looking into the past. She hopes that people looking at her art will recognize the places she chose to portray. Even if they do not, she wants the viewer to go looking for them and to fall in love with places the way she has.
Holzer is a successful artist who has been actively exhibiting and selling art since 2005.

About the Exhibition
On Earth and Elsewhere unpacks the ramifications of human influence on the earth. Comprising ten artists, each work displays an image of humanity’s place in the surrounding cosmos. Taking as its point of departure different images humanity has had of itself across history, the exhibition offers something like a timeline of what humanity has accomplished, as well as what it stands to lose in the face of pressing realities like climate change.
