In a recent press release, Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) announced that Canadian sculptor and artist Tim Forbes was specially commissioned to conceptualize and design five distinct commemorative sculptures for the inaugural presentation of IDC’s “Top 5 Under 5 Awards” – a newly launched program aimed at recognizing the rising stars of Canadian interior design, who are within the first five years of their career.

Forbes created each commemorative design based on his most recent portfolio ECHO, a body of simple, striking sculptures produced from linear, stainless steel.  “I believe the creative strength of young talent represents possibilities. And, while each piece is unique, these five awards were developed from a single ten-foot length of polished aluminum, to purposely illustrate the importance of abstract lines in visualization; representing the lines between ideas and possibilities”, Forbes commented.

Susan Wiggins, Executive Director of IDC said “I was in awe of the Forbes sculpture for our annual awards program. His creative concept embodies the spirit of the youth who we celebrate today”.

Tim Forbes is recognized for his signature sculptures in bronze and resin.  A prolific and respected talent, Forbes creatives can be found in private and corporate commissions internationally.  In 2010 selections from his HUMAN series were showcased in the MADE Section of New York’s coveted design event, The Architectural Digest Home Design Show.  In 2009, global art insurance specialist, AXA Art presented Forbes dynamic portfolio HUMAN to international collectors in attendance at Canada’s premier art market event, Art Toronto.

The achievements of  the IDC Top 5 under 5 awardees will be celebrated at its annual meeting today and presented in partnership with InterFaceFLOR® and KNOLL.

Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) is the national advocacy association representing more than 3,500 interior designers and industry professionals.
