The Ann Korologos Gallery in Basalt is proud to present the work of Peter Campbell and Terry Gardner this July in The View: Past & Present. The exhibition features both Colorado based artists’ interpretations of everything from bygone days to the modern West.
“For this exhibition, each artist was asked to document his unique perception of the ever-evolving western landscape,” says Gallery Director Julia Novy. “Terry exemplifies his mantra of being a modern painter of the American West. His historical context and emotion transmit through the colors and tones of his works. And Peter uses a fresh take on classic landscape painting by overlaying soft and hard edges of paint to imitate what the viewer sees.”
Peter Campbell started his artistic career as a photographer, studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. As he honed his photography skills, painting became his passion, and he turned to painting full-time after moving to Colorado several years ago. For the upcoming exhibition, Campbell is exhibiting fourteen new works. “My interpretation really alludes to the passage of time and the transient nature of the landscape instead of a contemplation of nostalgia,” explains Campbell. “I hope the viewer can revel in the simplicity and honest exploration of the beauty that the land and sky provide us with daily and see a reflection of their own recognition of that essence in my work.”
Terry Gardner was born and raised in Missouri where he received his Bachelor of Arts from Maryville University. He moved west to paint outdoors and developed an intimate relationship with the land and life of the west. Gardner will exhibit fifteen new oil paintings that were completed this past year. “My intention was to paint contemporary images in which the subject helps tell the story of the changing face of the American West,” says Gardner. “The color choices, edge work, and tones are intended to elicit emotion and contemplation about an earlier time in the west.”
