Sullivan Goss – An American Gallery is pleased to announce that LA’s RISEN is getting bigger. On September 1, 2011 the exhibition will extend into the back room of our gallery in order to house the remaining heavy-hitters of the post-war Los Angeles art scene. With additional works from Bentley Schaad, Anders Aldrin, and Dan Lutz, as well as works by Lorser Feitleson and Milford Zornes, this exhibition captures the spirit of the age when Los Angeles emerged as an art capital.

If you attend the opening night, September 1, 2011, we are having a live rock band playing your favorites from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. What better way is there to celebrate the end of summer than with art, music, and the Santa Barbara community?

In anticipation of PACIFIC STANDARD TIME, an initiative funded by the Getty Foundation that will endeavor to explore and chronicle the birth of post-war to contemporary Los Angeles art, Sullivan Goss – An American Gallery presents LA’s RISEN, a sweeping exhibition that historicizes significant Los Angeles art from 1940 through to the 1980s. Inspired by Lyn Kienholz’s substantial new book, LA RISING—which provides images and review quotations for around 475 Los Angeles artists from before 1980—this exhibition showcases the development of modern and contemporary art in Southern California by major Los Angeles artists.

Come celebrate this exciting and memorable era of Los Angeles art with us. We hope to see you on the opening night!
