Doyle’s Asian Works of Art auction on Monday, September 10 at 10am will present the arts of China, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia dating from the Neolithic Period through the 20th century. Showcased will be porcelains, pottery, jade, scholar’s objects, bronzes, screens, furniture and paintings from prominent collections and estates.

Chinese porcelains feature a Yuan-Ming Dynasty covered jar was produced in the southern Chinese region of Longquan where some 500 kilns have been discovered. Such wares are prized for the crisp quality of carving and the consistency in color and thickness of the glaze. The jar is stunning for the even color of the glaze on both the lid and the body -- a perfect match (est. $10,000-15,000).

Highlighting the selection of Chinese jades is a pair of beautiful Qing Dynasty covered vases carved in high relief with boats below swaying grasses and flying waterbirds, height 10 inches (est. $12,000-18,000). Also from the Qing Dynasty is a fascinating mountain sculpture of lapis lazuli intricately carved with pine trees and small pavilions, height 7 7/8 inches (est. $8,000-12,000).

Works of art in miniature, Chinese snuff bottles are collected for their intricate beauty, variation of design and color. Property from a number of private collections and the Estate of Mary Ann Bresee offers numerous examples dating from the 18th to 20th centuries in a range of mediums (est. $3,000-5,000).

Japanese Satsuma porcelain from the Meiji Era, once an Imperial ware, is now prized by collectors. The sale offers an extensive collection of Satsuma porcelain including a large and robust covered vase beautifully painted in gold and colored enamels with images of Arhats (est. $3,000-5,000). From the same collection is a large group of Japanese bronzes.
