Following the successful inaugural sale in the category of Fine Modern Art last Fall, Doyle will hold a second auction on Wednesday, March 6 at 10am. Showcasing paintings, drawings, sculpture and fine prints with moderate estimates, the upcoming auction in this new category is certain to generate excitement among seasoned collectors and new buyers alike.

The sale presents a wide spectrum of works from various artistic movements and regions of the globe, spanning over one hundred years of creative activity. There are studies for sculpture by such prominent modernists as Jacques Lipchitz and Pietro Consagra; Post-War abstractions by Franz Kline, Albert Kotin, George McNeil, Norman Lewis, and John Opper; and two Color Field works by Sally Michael Avery.

Also offered are stage set and costume designs by Mstislav Dobuzhinsky and studies by Pavel Tchelitchew; as well as a large outdoor sculpture by Dorothy Dehner. Post-War figurative works represent the east and west coasts of the United States with works by Paul Wonner, William Theophilus Brown, Earl Kerkam, and Lester Johnson.

These contributions and others come from artists who were active in Spain, France, Russia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Italy and the United States.

The category of Fine Modern Art is an auction venue ripe for young collectors to discover accomplished art at reasonable prices. Decorators can create a period setting within clients’ homes with captivating art that has life beyond the first viewing, offering far more than mere wall decoration. And experienced buyers will find works to round out an existing collection.

The public is invited to the exhibition on view from Saturday, March 2 through Monday, March 4. Doyle is located at 175 East 87th Street in Manhattan. The catalogue is available online at Doyle.com
