MARCH 2012

Sullivan Goss – An American Gallery is thrilled to announce the publication of three new books this March!

The Drawings of Leon Dabo was written by gallery Director Jeremy Tessmer with a foreword by gallery owner Frank Goss. This scholarly study and comprehensive presentation of Dabo’s works on paper proves truly engaging and marks the first significant monographic publication on an artist whose works have been part of 60 public collections. If you come visit us before April, you will still have time to walk through the The Drawings of Leon Dabo exhibition with your book as a guide.

By now you’ve all seen our previous publications: De Forest’s PALM SPRINGS, De Forest’s SANTA BARBARA, Collecting Moonlight, and 40 Nights. We proudly add two more books about Lockwood de Forest’s life and paintings to our collection. De Forest’s MONTEREYwill be available this March. Paintings of Carmel, Monterey, and Point Lobos with their classic dark, jagged cliff-sides overlooking turbulent turquoise surf, and the memorable cypress trees of the north will be presented along with biographical text. We are also working toward an exhibition of de Forest’s Monterey paintings to be shown at the Museum of Monterey in September of this year.

To help celebrate the opening of the gallery’s exhibition, In Search of the Source: Paintings of the Nile and Beyond by Lockwood de Forest, the gallery has prepared a  book to accompany the show.  Dr. Brian Faigan, author of Egypt of the Pharaohs and The Rape of the Nile, has prepared an informative text that will accompany de Forest’s Nile and Middle Eastern works. The book will also feature the first published transcription of the de Forest’s letters to Walter Launt Palmer recounting the details of his trip up the Nile and across the Middle East.
