RAGO AUCTIONS TO SELL THE LILLIAN C. HOFFMAN COLLECTION OF AMERICAN AND EUROPEAN POTTERY
Lambertville, NJ: Rago Auctions has been selected to sell the Lillian C. Hoffman Collection of American and European Pottery on March 1, 2014 at Noon. The 99 piece collection is a compendium emphasizing Rookwood Pottery from Cincinnati, Ohio, and Martin Brothers, from Southall, London, England. Highlights include a rare grouping of artwork by John Dee Wareham, the head decorator at Rookwood, as well as Martin ware bird and animal tobacco jars.
“Lillian and David Hoffman were among the first collectors of American and European art pottery, beginning in the late 1960's. Lillian had an eye, and they had the means, to assemble some of finest known examples of Rookwood, Losanti, and Martin Brothers, all of which have remained off the market for nearly four decades,” said David Rago. “We are privileged to offer the collection in its entirety.”
The sale of the collection takes place as part of Rago’s 20th C. Decorative Arts and Design auction on March 1 and 2. The online catalog can be browsed in its entirety as of February 13 at ragoarts.com. Print catalogs for the Lillian C. Hoffman Collection of American and European Pottery, Early 20th C. Decorative Art and Modern Design will be available from February 13. The exhibition opens on February 22. For more information, please call 609.397.9374 or email info@ragoarts.com.
