A diverse and eclectic collection of 451 lots of fine art, furniture and decorative art goes up for auction at Gray’s on April 6. Fine art on offer spans traditional oils such as lot 7, Bear Hunters by François-Auguste Biard, to a group of op and contemporary art by well-known artists. Lot 15 is an early oil on board still life by Richard Anuszkiewicz, dated 1949, when the artist was still studying at Yale with Joseph Albers, before he became a founder of op art movement. His English counterpart in the movement was Bridget Riley. Her screenprint Elapse from 1982, published by The Print Club of Cleveland is lot 67 in our sale. The celebrated Israeli artist Yaccov Agam’s Nines, a 3-D Screenprint on folded paper construction in plexi box is listed at Lot 66. The compound nom-de-plume of artists Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels is Curtis Jeré. Their hip vintage ornamental metalworks range from tabletop ornaments, lamps, and bookends, but the most popular pieces are the wall sculptures, like the Raindrops sculpture at lot 69.

Lot 186 is a Chinese carved celadon jade Lingzhi washer; a highlight in the Asian category. It is accompanied by several other washers carved in agate, as well as many snuff bottles in glass, stoneware, jade and porcelain.

Jade overlaps from the Asian category into jewelry beginning with lot 195, a graduated green jade beaded necklace.  Additional outstanding pieces in jewelry include lot 218, a 14 kt. yellow gold, diamond and ruby cocktail ring. Other rings can be found set with diamonds, emeralds, opals, sapphires, and star sapphires, among many.

A wonderful collection wood boxes including several beautiful English tea caddies can be found starting with lot 338, an English shaped burled wood box. Lot 345 is an English mahogany tea caddy, with original crystal bowl and bone inlay around the lock. A great display of marquetry decoration can be found in lot 344, an English Bombe shaped tea caddy.

Furniture ranges in style from Queen Anne, to Charles II, Chippendale, Georgian, Sheraton, Regency, French Provincial, French Empire, and also include a few contemporary pieces. Lot 408, a 19th century continental carved fruitwood banquette is in great condition with its caned seat intact. Other notable pieces include lot 397, a pair of 18th century Chippendale mahogany side chairs, lot 402, a 19th century Georgian butler’s chest, and lot 391A, a marvelous 19th century Dutch oak Kas (“Kussenkast” or cabinet in English).

The auction concludes with a miscellaneous selection of vintage and antique linens, a croquet set, and books with subjects ranging from history, war, dogs, art, and sports. A final notable lot is Lot 435 is a Lionel train set with many parts and accessories. Preview days begin Thursday, March 31st from 10am to 5pm. Saturday April 2nd hours are from noon to 4pm.
