Clarke Auction quickly follows its small, but very successful Jan. 8th sale with a great fresh-to-market sale on Sunday, Jan. 29th at 2 PM in Larchmont, NY.
The art originates from all corners of the world including a delightful and colorful oil by renowned Egyptian artist, Omar El-Nagdi ($10,000 - $15,00 auction estimate). From Hungary come 4 abstract oils uncovered after 20 years in a New York storage room by Emory Ladanyi. Also in this auction is a collection of collages by Czech artist, Jiri Kolar from a local collector, and two illusionist oils by Russian artist Igor Tulpanov purchased by the consignor directly from the artist. Of note among a wide variety of American art is a gouache by Sol Lewitt ($10,000 - $15,000) and a lot from the estate of Louise Nevelson including a wood assemblage by the artist. Oils by African American artists, Daniel LaRue Johnson and Oliver Johnson (no relation) are also fresh to market. A collection of paintings and bronzes by Leonard Besser from his daughter round off this great and diverse selection of "don't miss art." For the Old Master aficionados who are in New York for the Sotheby's and Christie's sales, a cassone panel ($3,000 - $5,000) and a portrait of Rembrandt will be auctioned off on the 29th.
Midcentury Modern is something always favored by Clarke and is well covered in this sale, highlighted by a set of 8 Karl Springer 'Onassis' chairs ($1,000 - $1,500), a Springer parchment dining table plus Aldo Tura, George Nelson and several midcentury iron and metal sculptures.
High quality Regency furniture from a local estate is another high point of this sale. Of note is a captain's desk ($1,000 - $1,500), a 'what not' shelf and an architect's desk.
For Clarke's avid Chinese buyers Clarke's has porcelains, ivories, art, hardwood and marble top tables and a magnificent pair of highly carved antique 2 door cabinets.
In addition, there will be great sterling, porcelains, carpets, lighting, jewelry and clocks. This is a great sale and not to be missed.
Says owner, Ronan Clarke, "Thanks for your interest and we hope to see you here in Larchmont on January 29th.
