The New York Art, Antiques & Jewelry Show (NYAAJ) opened Wednesday evening at Pier 94 with a private reception hosted by Sharon Bush and Lauren Bush Lauren of the FEED Foundation and a VIP Preview.

Premiering at this year's edition is CONTEMPORARY SPOTLIGHT, a special section dedicated to exhibitors presenting post-war and contemporary art, objects, and design. Section exhibitors hail from ten different cities in five different countries around the world. Contemporary art contributed to the roster of early sales that took place at the fair during the preview hours.

Among the early sale highlights from the section are:

Helianthe, an oil and acrylic painting on hand knotted Persian carpet by Christiaan Lieverse, listed for $38,000 and sold by Villa del Arte (Barcelona, Spain); a large triptych painting by Jessica Potenza, titled Rêveries, sold by Arteria (Bromont, Canada) for an undisclosed sum; and an exquisite pastel by Gary Stinton sold by Jonathan Cooper Park Walk Gallery (London, UK) for $50,000.

"We are delighted to feature contemporary art in an appropriate manner via CONTEMPORARY SPOTLIGHT, especially within the context of a cross-collecting fair covering such incredible breadth of artistic genres and time periods as this," explains the fair's director Barbara Goodwin about this show-in-show initiative. "We had the conviction that contemporary art exhibitors would find a good audience among the fair's dedicated clientele that share unbiased appreciation for quality and mastery regardless of medium, origin, and time period."

The fair is open to the public for regular admission from Thursday, November 10th through Sunday, November 13th between 11am and 7pm.

Location: Pier 94 (711 12th Ave, New York City)

Complimentary shuttle service between Pier 94 and Upper East Side with a stop located on the corner of Park Avenue and 67th street.
