Palm Beach Show Group will continue expanding in the West Coast with the launch of a new show in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Jewelry & Antique Show will take place January 15 – 19, 2014 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, South Hall. Veteran show producers Scott Diament and Rob Samuels in conjunction with Kim Martindale have more than 75 years of focus in the jewelry, fine art and antique industries. The Los Angeles Jewelry & Antique Show marks the seventh show that Diament & Samuels have brought under the umbrella of the Palm Beach Show Group. The two recently announced a Chicago edition earlier in the year.
As G.I.A. Graduate Gemologists, Diament and Samuels have parlayed their expertise into one of the most successful show production companies in the world. The Los Angeles Jewelry & Antique Show is the only high-end jewelry and antique event in Southern California. The show will feature exciting one-of-a-kind gems, designer jewelry and watches, vintage couture purses, cases and decorative arts including: antique and modern silver, Asian art, textiles, books, porcelain, tribal art, furnishings and accessories. A portion of the show will also be dedicated showcasing to rare museum-quality tribal art and artifacts. The breadth and quality of the pieces at this event has been carefully curated to meet the palates of collectors and luxury enthusiasts.
A sister-show to the Palm Beach Show Group’s West Coast venture, LA Art Show which is scheduled in conjunction with The Los Angeles Jewelry & Antique Show, these two art fairs will be the most important art, antique & jewelry event in the country: a monumental art, design and jewelry community covering more than 300,000 square feet of the Los Angeles Convention Center.
“We are a company that produces fine art, antique and jewelry show it seemed like the perfect fit to add this show to complement the LA Art Show,” states Diament. “I think Los Angeles is the perfect city to launch a jewelry and antique show. The city is a blend of old Hollywood and contemporary cutting edge. It’s glamorous, classic and chic all at the same time. I think Angelenos are reflective of this and believe they will respond positively to our newest arrival.”
The Los Angeles Jewelry & Antique Show in partnership with Museo Maya de America in conjunction with La Ruta Maya foundation, will debut Treasures of the Maya Spirit, the world’s most comprehensive exhibition of Maya art and ethnography featuring more than 150 ancient cultural treasures from the classic period of Maya civilization (250-900 AD) and a number of significant examples of late nineteenth and early twentieth-century Maya ritual art. The exhibition will also showcase a select number of contemporary works on loan from the Piaz Foundation, representing the top artists featured during 45-year history of the Guatemalan Biennale.
“The LA Show 2014 is a platform that will allow Guatemalan art and culture an extraordinary opportunity to be presented to the art world and the public of Los Angeles. This exposure, we expect, will provide a great boost to the country’s economy by promoting cultural tourism. The show presents the diversity of Mayan Art in Guatemala contributing to create and strengthen the sense of identity of the Mayan population, and also increases national pride for our Mayan heritage. The exhibition at LA Show 2014 raises awareness of the importance of the Maya Museum of America, attracting the interest of funding organizations to support the construction of important project,” states La Ruta Maya President Fernando Paiz Andrade, who is leading the capital campaign to fund a dedicated building to house these masterworks.
The exhibition will showcase the best examples of Mayan art, including an impressive nine-foot long stucco representation of a masked jaguar dancer from the early classic period (ca. 300 AD). Likened to the Maya equivalent of King Tut’s Golden Mask, the mask’s features are drawn from several creatures of nature, representing the world of the spirit in the way typical of Maya religion. Additional pieces include several fine examples of dance masks and folk saints that represent the continuation and transformation of this form of religious mask use among the post-conquest Maya of the early twentieth-century.
The Los Angeles Jewelry & Antique Show will also feature a special tribal art section showcasing the some of the most sought after pieces of American Indian, Oceanic and African art. A curated exhibit featuring traditional Chinese art including, lacquer, ceramics, and paper cutting will also be on display.
The Los Angeles Jewelry & Antique Show takes place from January 15 – 19, 2014 concurrently with the Los Angeles Art Show at the Los Angeles Convention Center, South Hall 1201 Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA 90015.
