International Competition Awards Laguna College of Art and Design Fine Art Alumni and Faculty Art Renewal Center Honors

Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) announced nine alumni and two faculty from its Fine Arts Division have won or finaled in the 2014-2015 International Art Renewal Center (ARC) Salon Competition.
"We are overjoyed to see so many of our alumni and faculty recognized for their talent and commitment to expressing themes and stories in painting, sculpture and drawing," said Jonathan Burke, president of LCAD. "We understand that there were more than 2,500 entries to this competition from 1,050 artists all over the world. To have this many of our LCAD family included in such an elite group is an incredible honor for our art and design college."
The official international awards ceremony of ARC Salon winners will take on November 20, 2015 at European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona. The ARC Salon portion of the exhibition will then travel to New York, where it will hang at the Salamagundi Club in 2016.
LCAD Winners and finalists who received their Bachelor of Fine Arts are:
Julio Reyes: $39,000 Purchase Prize and $1,000 Second Place in the Figurative Category
Julio Reyes: $7,900 Purchase Prize
Adrienne Stein: $11,500 Purchase Prize, Honorable Mention in the Figurative Category
Mardie Rees: $1,000 Second Place Prize in the Sculpture Category
Candice Bohannon: $350 Chairman’s Prize
Angela Cunningham, Finalist in the Still life Category
LCAD Master of Fine Art Alumni in Painting and Drawing include:
Alla Bartoshchuk, Finalist in Imaginative Realism
Regina Jacobson (also BFA Alumni), Finalist in Imaginative Realism
Zoey Frank, Finalist in Drawing
LCAD Fine Art faculty include Jon Swihart, Finalist in Drawing and Figurative and
Robin Smith (LCAD MFA alumna), Finalist in Drawing.
When Burke joined LCAD as a professor 35 years ago, he set out on a mission to build one of the best representational art colleges. All LCAD students are trained in the classical traditions and then take those skills into their majors which may include design and digital media, animation, game art and illustration. LCAD is one of the few remaining art schools in the nation committed to representational art.
