Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates is pleased to announce its 37th Semi-Annual Americana and Fine Antiques Auction to be held November 15 & 16, 2019. The two-day event features historic property from estates and collections in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Texas, Connecticut, Georgia, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Ohio, plus museum deaccessions, including material from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
Session I, beginning at 9:30 am EST on Friday, November 15, 2019 will feature an excellent selection of 18th and 19th century glass, lighting, and ceramics. Highlights include an important Bakewell, Page & Bakewell cut-glass mantel ornament with George Washington sulphide bust, circa 1825, one of only two recorded cut examples, a newly discovered and unrecorded specimen; a cut-glass presentation compote with finely engraved steam train, circa 1860, probably C. Dorflinger; a rare cut-overlay five-piece garniture set with 1848 New Jersey wedding provenance; rare blown three-mold articles; early lighting devices; colored candlesticks and vases; rare pressed lacy glass; flint EAPG; and an extensive selection of Staffordshire transferware including many rare American historical views.
Session II, beginning at 9:30 am EST on Saturday, November 16, 2019, will include the firm’s usual fine selection of rare Virginia & other Southern material; 18th & 19th century formal and country furniture; American fine & decorative arts; folk pottery; 19th century coin silver; Shenandoah Valley and other folk art; a fine selection of late 18th /early 19th century English ceramic figures, Shenandoah Valley and other long rifles; early quilts and other textiles; Native American material; Outsider art; &c.
Highlights in the Saturday session include important American and Georgian silver from the estate of Commander Buryl and Nelwyn Kay, McLean, VA; an exciting group of American folk art from the collection of Jean and Robert Vogel, featuring fraktur, painted furniture, textiles, and ceramics; and an excellent selection of American needlework from the collection of Helen Sutton, Dallas, TX. Noteworthy objects include a fine pair of portraits of brother and sister from a Bath, Maine family, attributed to Sturtevant Hamblin; an exceptional Stirewalt family, New Market, VA paint-decorated yellow pine diminutive box; a rare Jacob Fry, Woodstock, Virginia inlaid cherry tall-case clock; a Paul Revere, Jr. silver cream jug / pot; a Myer Myers silver sauce boat; a Navajo Late Classic Second Phase women’s chief’s wearing blanket; an Abraham Lincoln White House Limoges porcelain dinner plate; a Thomas Moran view of New York Harbor; a Charles Burton profile portrait of a girl; and much more.
