Richmond Hill, ON –May 10 marks the mid-point of the year and with great anticipation, 888 Auctions is proud to feature a 399-lot sale featuring fresh-to-market items that include fine art, paintings and Asian antiques.

Paintings abound in the May 10 auction and several standout pieces have been garnering considerable interest in the lead up to the sale. In particular, lot 44, a Marc Chagall (French, 1887-1985) graphite on paper and framed, features a gallery stamped on the lower left margin. The gallery note features “The Redfern Gallery” attached and stamped on verso. Hailing from a private estate in New York, this lot is expected to achieve its high estimate of $10,000.

Another piece expected to achieve its high estimate is lot 60, a Vincent Van Gogh (Dutch, 1853-1890) Tempera on Paper. This exceptional piece features a Parisian restaurant scene with wine bottles and chairs and taken from a vantage point of a lone figure watching the bustling scene in front of them. Lot 60 is accompanied with a certificate of authenticity and commands a high estimate of $8,000.

A more understated piece can be found at lot 106, a Carlo Canevari (Italian, 1922-1996) Oil on panel painting. Featuring a playful scene of three nuns in an art gallery with a towering marble sculpture off to the side, this piece captures Canevari’s theme of nuns in relatively secular settings. Hailing from a private collection in Washington, DC, lot 106 features a high estimate of $2,500.
