MME Fine Art, is pleased to announce the opening of Fair Winds, a stunning exhibition of over twenty-five romantic American marine paintings which celebrate the magic of the sea and its’ ever changing beauty.
Nautical subjects have enchanted painters for centuries, in the decades preceding and following the turn of the 20th century, the American Northeast was focused on maritime culture—harbors, sailing, and the coastal scenery. Hudson River School painters and American Impressionists alike were drawn to the shores up and down the Eastern coastline, finding their subjects in the busy industrial ports and calm summertime resort harbors.
Whether it is an elegant, quintessential yachting scene by the great James Butterworth, an evocative, lusciously executed oil by Long Island’s beloved Irving Ramsey Wiles, a charming beachside genre by the talented Martha Walter, or a luminist and reflective beach scene by William Trost Richards viewers will enjoy a wide variety of styles and fine quality.
Masterful works by Walter Launt Palmer, Sanford Robinson Gifford, Aldro T. Hibbard, Mauritz F. de Haas, Alexander T. Harrison and Alfred T. Bricher among others are also on view until December 30, 2015.
