Richmond Hill, ON – With summer in full swing, bidders will be excited to see 888 Auctions kick start the new season June 7 with a diverse selection of 383 fresh-to-market items which includes Modern Paintings, Jewelry, Coins & Asian Art.

 

Headlining the sale is a series of modern paintings that have garnered strong early interest from collectors. Lot 42, an ink on paper attributed to Marc Chagall (French, 1877-1985) continues to draw interest and inquiries from prospective buyers. Conservatively estimated at $9,000, this ink on paper features a large surrealist fantasy scene and a sketch of a portrait on verso.

 

Following closely on the heels of Lot 42 is a Lot 54 and Lot 59, featuring attributed pieces by Yves Tanguy and Joan Miro, respectively. Lot 54, signed and attributed to Yves Tanguy features a gouache on paper surrealist landscape scene and carries a high estimate of $7,500; Lot 59, signed and attributed to Joan Miro features a gouache on paper surrealist scene and carries as high estimate of $9,500.

 

Modern art from the likes of Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, and others are also featured in the June 7 auction and can be found at the following lots:

 

Lot 47: Andy Warhol American 1928-1987crayon On Paper Gun (High Estimate: $6,000)

Lot 34: Roy Lichtenstein Us 1923-1997 Crayon On Paper (High Estimate: $9,500)

Lot 62: Egon Schiele Austrian 1890-1918 Ink And Pastel On Paper Seal (High Estimate: $8,000)

Lot 65: Claude Monet French 1840-1926 Tempera On Paper With Certificate Of Authenticity (High Estimate: $8,000)

 

Last but not least, Lot 383 is an interesting and unique inclusion in the auction. Commanding a high estimate of $50,000, lot 383 is a Chinese Ying Mu Carved Opium Bed with Burl Wood Carved Inset Panels. Constructed with four waisted corner legs in the shape of mythical beasts and surmounted by an apron carved with archaistic chilong in confrontational antithetical style, the Ying Mu carved opium bed is finished in a lacquer of deep chestnut tone.
