South Carolina’s Wooten and Wooten Auctioneers is quickly becoming one of the most talked about names in Southern antiques and great estates. Their January sale of the Ferrell Collection of Southern Pottery brought record setting prices on several pieces of Edgefield pottery, bringing $766,549 in just 87 lots. The success of the sale highlighted the gallery’s growth and continued reputation for quality service.
Wooten and Wooten’s Fine Spring Estates is next in a string of increasingly strong sales. This March 22nd catalog auction will feature fresh new offerings from notable American estates, including exemplary pieces of art, furniture, ceramics, Asian artifacts and Americana.
Art highlights include a lovely Jeffrey Ripple landscape and a grand painting by renowned Italian contemporary artist Alessandro Papetti. Wooten and Wooten’s ceramic selection continues to impress with a slave-made Edgefield, South Carolina face jug, a newly discovered Thomas Chandler four-handled storage jar, and a rare Tucker Porcelain Philadelphia punch bowl. Asian items will also be well-represented, with fine pieces of jade and a large Qing Dynasty famille rose palace urn. Additional highlights include a gilded American aesthetic Herter Brothers cabinet from the collection of a South Carolina gentleman, a unique collection of Russian silver from a Main Line Philadelphia estate, a seminal 1816 Map of the United States by John Melish, and a rare proof sheet from a Columbia Records photography session with Bob Dylan.
Their exciting March offerings and strong January performance prompted Wooten and Wooten’s Owner and CEO Jeremy Wooten to speak about the upcoming year. “We are looking forward to a great 2014, and are honored to collaborate with such distinguished estates, buyers, and collectors.”
