This year's theme for Rural Women's Day focuses on the vital role that rural women play in climate action and building resilience towards a green recovery from the pandemic.
Dr. Zubeyde Arat-Akdogan, a nephrologist and the founder of a Biomedical Statistical company is from Yakakent, a rural coastal town in the Black Sea region of Turkey. Her father is a farmer who grows Peaches, Watermellons, Soy, Rice, Tobbacco, Cherries, Olives, Artichokes and her mother a schooll teacher.
Women, girls and healthcare professionals like Dr. Akdogan have been disadvantaged during this pandemic, a problem aggravated in rural areas. Because in remote areas, they are less likely to have access to quality health services, essential medicines, vaccines and critical technologies to improve their health.
The portraits of Dr Akdogan by Selva Ozelli are included in the following art shows
