OVIEDO, Ramon. Oil on Canvas.
Clarke Auction

Just three weeks after a highly successful start to the fall auction season, the Clarke Auction team of appraisers has collectively created another quality sale of fine art, midcentury, silver, jewelry, antiques, and Asian items to be held on Sunday, September 8th at 12pm EST.

The fine art selection will begin the sale and will include a number of important estate fresh pieces. One of the most exciting pieces in the fine art selection is a Roy D. Deforest  polymer on canvas entitled “Swamp Fever.” The work is signed and dated 1982 with a Phoenix Art Museum label verso.  The painting is a sprawling exhibition of color, measuring almost 72” high and 85.5” wide.

Also featured in the fine art selection are several works by Sam Messer, including a large 1987 abstract oil on canvas,  and a 1995-1998 oil on canvas entitled “Portrait without Sedg” or alternatively “Pink Toe.” Also by Messer, a charcoal and dry pigment on ray paper, and a color lithograph will be featured in the selection on September 29th.

Additional modernist paintings will be featured through works by the Dominican painter, Ramon Oviedo. The two paintings, one abstract figural piece, and one of a musician, are stellar examples of abstraction to portray the human form. Both of the Oviedo lots convey a modern, yet timeless, view into the soul of the captured scene. Each painting is a representation of modernism not only from a single artist, but an area of the world that breathes color and supposes life on canvas. Oviedo’s works should bring a considerable amount of interest and will be two exciting lots at Clarke’s September 29th sale.

Straying outside the realm of traditional mediums, a special offering by Antonio M. Blanco will be included in the selection. Blanco’s three separate pieces include highly unique and original carved and painted frames with original poetry collage interiors. They are entitled “Flora,” “This and That,” and “The Finger of Columbus” respectively.

A matched pair of George Nelson chests and a pair of George Nelson bookcases will also be auction on September 29th at Clarke. The book cases will be sold as a lot with a beautiful dark and cushioned convertible headboard.
