Ann Korologos Gallery is pleased to present Winter in the West, a group exhibition presenting works by renowned artists Dan Young, Andy Taylor, Peter Campbell, Dinah Worman, and Simon Winegar, and other artists who are capturing the variety in color, texture, and mood of Western snowscapes. The exhibition will open with an Artists’ Reception on Wednesday, January 10th from 5 to 7PM at Ann Korologos Gallery in Basalt.

“Until you see a western winter as captured by these talented artists, do you realize just how many colors there are in the ‘white’ of snow. This exhibition really shows the vast beauty of western winters, as well as the intimacy and quiet of snow,” reflects gallery owner Ann Korologos.

Dan Young is a Colorado native and 2018 Coors Featured Artist whose impressionist landscape paintings depict beloved locations and pastimes of the West. Over the years Young has mastered the challenges posed by painting on location regardless of the season. Young’s work feels familiar to those who know the wild of the West, sometimes taking the viewer right back to an experience and place through his practice as a keen observer.

Andy Taylor often leaves his Colorado studio to capture the essence of a scene with pen and ink sketches with marginalia, leaving room for him to “invent significance and make discoveries” as he expands the vision in studio. Taylor creates unusual, even abstract, perspectives of familiar landmarks, especially as he employs a broad, atypical palette with his colorful, gestural style.

Peter Campbell moved to Colorado after studying at the Savannah College of Art & Design. Campbell’s paintings reflect his direct connection with the landscape, and convey an intimate and personal reaction to nature. A limited color palette and omission of details results in a dream-like mood, open to each viewer’s interpretation as he captures the quiet of snow, light on trees, or mood of dawn.

Dinah Worman’s representational yet imaginative variations in both oil and pastel are instantly recognizable for their clarity, depth, and quality of light. Worman’s work shows the interaction of man and nature in the contemporary “Wild West” of New Mexico and neighboring Colorado, depicted as “an arranged still life.” This perspective of the landscape and masterful use of oil and pastel draws in collectors.

Simon Winegar is a Utah-based painter inspired by his love for the outdoors and its natural beauty, including man made additions like weathered barns and ranch houses. While his subjects vary, he most enjoys painting en plein air, and “creating moods that are often romantic and thought provoking,” shares the artist. Winegar’s tonalist landscapes are meant to beautify the world and move the viewer.
