Picturing Holy Women in the Spanish Empire, 1620–1800
https://meadowsmuseumdallas.org/exhibitions/picturing-holy-women/
This exhibition will examine prints and drawings from the Bridwell and DeGolyer Libraries at SMU, as well as from the Meadows’s own collection, that visualize female biblical figures, saints, and monastics. By contextualizing these works against their historical backdrop, it is possible to read them in light of the regulation of women’s mobility and agency by the Catholic Church and Spanish monarchy.
