Channel B, an exhibition by black-owned art, music and creative education initiative Nine Nights, opens at the ICA from 11 Oct 2021 - 30 Jan 2022.

Traversing music, performance and art, Channel B is an exploration of black futurism featuring five sound and video installations by multidisciplinary artists GAIKA, GLOR1A and Shannen SP with live performance and broadcast.

In light of continued brutality at the hands of the police, the growing protest movement and the pandemic’s impact on nightlife and live work, Nine Nights emerged in May 2020, operating to build a new community structure for experimental UK Black arts that is free of institutional racism.

Works will address sci-fi, speculative fiction, horror, political satire and experimental sound and consider the contemporary role of surveillance, digital autonomy, non-human intelligence and digitised human ritual.

At the core of Channel B is the live event series New Syntax, which sees each installation activated through live performance. Drawing on a lineage of pirate broadcasters, subterranean dance floors and the ‘happenings’ of the 1960s, Channel B will act as an archive of Black subculture.
