"Exotic Beauty - Birds in Paradise by Jesse Arms Botke 1883-1971," An Exhibition and Sale of Rare Oils
An exhibition and sale of paintings by Jesse Arms Botke will be on view at MME Fine Art May 12- July 22, 2016. Botke was recognized as one of the leading decorative painters of the Twentieth Century and was extraordinarily successful during a time when the fields of art and design were dominated almost exclusively by men. Botke earned much success and recognition for her highly decorative exotic bird studies and the use of gold leaf in her compositions which became part of her signature style and worked closely with leading interior designers and decorators who were enchanted with her work. In addition to her artistic endeavors, Botke was one of the first advocates of women’s rights, and in 1911 and 1912 marched up Fifth Avenue from Washington Square to Central Park in a suffragette parade. During the course of her very successful career as an artist, Botke exhibited her work regularly and earned numerous awards for her exquisite paintings and was one of the most celebrated decorative artists of her time.
