Natvar Bhavsar: Resonance of Color
Natvar Bhavsar (b. 1934 - ) is one of the most influential members of New York school of colorists and is recognized by critics and art historians as having extended the language of abstract expressionism and color field painting. As a result of an intensive exploration of the effects of pure color and his refined use of powdered pigments, inspired by artistic and social traditions of his Indian heritage, he has created one of the most individualistic and distinctive bodies of work to be associated with the style of Color Field painting - combining pure essence of color, sensual tactility, and the impact of size. Bhavsar's paintings belong to both India and New York - he straddles both, transcends both and brings together the essence of East and West. His paintings are in more than 800 public and private collections, including the Guggenheim, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
