Andrew Blauvelt and Ellen Lupton, co-curators of the RISD Museum's spring exhibition "Graphic Design: Now in Production," visit Providence for a two-part discussion co-sponsored by the RISD Museum and RISD Graphic Design department. Join the curators in the exhibition galleries for a conversation with graphic designers Jessica Helfand of Winterhouse Studios and Prem Krishnamurthy of Project Projects, and RISD faculty members Lucy Hitchcock, Bethany Johns, Douglass Scott, Benjamin Shaykin, and Nancy Skolos. The group debates graphic design’s past, critiques its role today, and imagines its future. 1-5 pm, all welcome. $25; $10 for RISD Museum members. Registration required. Later that evening, Blauvelt, Lupton, Helfand, and Krishnamurthy explore the concept of the designer as producer and discuss the future of graphic design education. John Caserta, RISD Graphic Design department head and founder of The Design Office, moderates. 6:30-8 pm. Free, all welcome. Registration required. Visit risdmuseum.org/notes/graphic_design_now_in_production for more information and to register for one or both sessions.
