Gray's Auctioneers is honored to have been selected to auction the remaining corporate art collection of the Richard E. Jacobs Group, Westlake, Ohio. Dick Jacobs, along with his brother David, were national real estate developers. They were instrumental in the renaissance of downtown Cleveland. The Jacobs' were also well known for owning the Cleveland Indians baseball team from 1986 to 1999. Their tenure marks the one of the team's most successful periods, twice reaching the World Series (1995 and 1997) and winning five consecutive divisional championships (1995-1999).
Gray's will be auctioning the group's art collection on June 28th starting at 11am. Lots 1 & 2 are large format, fine art color photographs by Joel Sternfeld (b.1944). Sternfled's photography chronicles roadside America, continuing in the tradition that was initiated by Walker Evans in the 1930s.
Jim Dine, the American pop artist from Cincinnati, Ohio (b.1939) has one of the highlighted lots in the auction at Lot 70. It is an over-sized woodcut, 'The Kindergarten Robe' from 1983.
