Lecture: Barocci and His World
Saturday, October 20, 11:00 am Theodore Rabb, Professor of History, Emeritus, Princeton University Italian artist Federico Barocci (1533-1612), lived during a time of great transition. Religious institutions were being challenged, the balances of power and commerce were shifting, and artists were moving away from the measured rationality of the Renaissance to the drama of the Baroque. Professor Rabb, an authority on Early Modern Europe, has published widely on the period and contributes to a number of periodicals, including Past and Present and The New York Review of Books. His books include Renaissance Lives: Portraits of an Age (1993) and The Last Days of the Renaissance: And the March to Modernity (2006). This program is co-presented by the Department of Art History and Archaeology at Washington University in St. Louis.
