Susan Van Campen: Watercolors

Susan Van Campen is both artist and naturalist. She draws her inspiration from the world out of doors – from the sloping meadows unfolding outside her window, and from the shapes and shades of the flowers she herself has tended. These are the subjects that hold Van Campen’s interest on the ground as a gardener and on the page as an artist. She is fascinated by the constant flux of flora and fauna, by the “moving, twisting, bending, drooping, opening, spreading and closing” of the buds, leaves, and stems of her flowers. She is keenly aware that nature is fleeting, changing, and she seeks to capture those changes in her paintings.
