Two Rembrandt portraits in the collections of France's Rothschild family are under final negotiations to be purchased by the Dutch government and the national Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The 160 million euro ($185 million) price tag is reported to be nearly financed for the Dutch master's works.
Baron Gustave de Rothschild bought the portraits in 1877 and they have been in France ever since.
The pair dates to 1634 and the sitters are trader Marten Soolmans and his wife Oopjen Coppit. The couple was painted for their wedding.
