DENVER, Pa. – Dan Morphy, president and founder of Morphy Auctions, has announced the appointment of Dr. Joshua Tauber as Antique Lamps & Lighting Consultant. Tauber joined the company’s Fine & Decorative Arts Division and assumed his new post on August 18.
A native of Morristown, New Jersey, Tauber is a physician who works in the field of addiction medicine. He is also a lifelong antiques aficionado who was introduced to collecting as a child by his father, Marc Tauber, a prominent dealer of vintage European sports cars. Josh, as he known to his many friends in the antiques trade, spent his formative years attending shows and auctions with his family, where he says he gained “a priceless education about antiques.”
Tauber graduated from medical school in Phoenix, Arizona, the city where he currently resides. Although he forged a successful career in medicine, he says his love of antiques “has never taken a back seat.” He and his fiancée own and operate an antiques store in Phoenix that is well known for its array of early 20th-century lighting and decorative arts of the Art Nouveau period.
When Josh learned of a possible opening in the Decorative Arts Division at Morphy Auctions, he contacted an old friend and fellow classmate who happened to work at Morphy’s in the Firearms Division. In short time, Josh was on a plane headed to Pennsylvania to meet with Dan Morphy and discuss the possibility of joining Morphy’s team.
“I immediately hit it off with Dan,” Tauber said. “It was really important to me to work with someone who was motivated by their passion for antiques, just as I am. It was clear to me that Dan and I had that in common. Most people would look at a doctor who wanted to work for an auction house like they were crazy, but Dan totally got it. He didn’t question it at all. His father, Dr. John Morphy, is also a physician and collector and has been involved with Morphy Auctions since its earliest days. All of the pieces seemed to fit together perfectly. I knew I was in the right place.”
Dan Morphy commented: “Josh Tauber is not only extremely knowledgeable about Tiffany Studios productions, he also has a special interest in the more-obscure makers, such as Suess, Bigelow & Kennard, and Duffner & Kimberly. We know he’s going to be a great asset to our Decorative Arts Division and couldn’t be more pleased that he agreed to join us.”
Morphy’s is currently accepting consignments for a December 9-10 Fine & Decorative Arts Auction. To discuss consigning antique lamps or lighting, contact Dr. Joshua Tauber by calling 877-968-8880 or emailing info@morphyauctions.com. Visit Morphy Auctions online at www.morphyauctions.com.
