Jackson, Wyoming – September 16-17, 2016 – Trailside Galleries and the Gerald Peters Gallery are pleased to announce the tenth annual Jackson Hole Art Auction, scheduled for September 16-17, 2016 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Both sessions will be held at the award-winning Center for the Arts in downtown Jackson Hole. Jason Brooks will serve as auctioneer.

New highlights include N.C. Wyeth’s masterwork He Rode Away Among the Sage, Following a Dim Trail. The 38 x 25 oil on canvas, dated 1909, is estimated at $500,000-$700,000. The painting hails from an important private collection and is fresh to the auction market. Other western highlights include high-quality works by Robert Lougheed, E.S. Paxson, Frederic Remington, and Olaf Wieghorst.

New wildlife highlights, the signature of the Jackson Hole Art Auction, include Robert Bateman’s Above the Rapids – Gulls and Grizzly (acrylic/canvas, 30 x 48), estimated at $50,000-$75,000. New Bob Kuhn acquisitions include Midnight Serenade (acrylic/board, 9 ¾ x 12) and In Ellesmere Land – Arctic Wolf (acrylic/board, 11 x 10 ½), both estimated at $25,000-$35,000. Stanley Meltzoff’s The Lord of the Barcajon Channel (oil/board, 31 3/4 x 41) will be offered at $30,000-$50,000. The Jackson Hole Art Auction holds the world record for Meltzoff, renowned gamefish illustrator. A fine collection of Ken Carlson paintings, including Bull Elk Portrait (oil/board, 24 x 36, $30,000-$40,000), will also be presented.  

Ken Carlson’s Contemplating the Odds (oil/canvas, 28 x 42, $40,000-$50,000) is the first Top Tier entry completed. Top Tier artists, chosen by invitation, consist of a select group of contemporary artists holding exemplary auction records. An esteemed jury of museum curators will award a $10,000 cash prize to the artist whose work is deemed of significant merit.

Current highlights of the Session I sale include small works by Bob Kuhn, Frank McCarthy, Charles M. Russell, and Olaf Wieghorst. The objective of the Session I sale, scheduled for September 16, is to offer well-curated, high quality works for the young or emerging art collector.
