One of the highlights of the Cape Cod Museum of Art’s exhibition schedule is reserved for Recent Gifts and Acquisitions, new work acquired by the museum in the previous calendar year. This year's additions to the permanent collection are of particular interest because the museum completed its 30th year in 2011 and the recently acquired work stands as both testimony to the breadth of the existing collection and the high esteem in which CCMA is held by both collectors and dealers. The exhibition of these works runs January 21 - February 12.
The Cape Cod Museum of Art is fortunate to have been given an excellent example of Harry Holl's sophisticated wheel thrown pottery; a rolled slab sculpture by Arnold Geissbuhler; an oil portrait by Arthur McMurtry; and an important self-portrait by A. Lassell Ripley. CCMA’s holdings of Irving Kriesberg's work is enhanced by an innovative pastel and the museum has an addition to its extensive collection of Xavier Gonzalez. The museum's photography collection now includes work by Stephanie Foster and John Babineau.
Thanks to the generosity of the artist's estate, the museum now owns two examples of pastel portraits by the late Robert John Cormier. Cormier studied with R. H. Ives Gammell in Provincetown in the early 1950s and his Man with a Fur Collar stands out as one of the finest examples of portraiture in 20th century art.
Artists whose work is represented in the museum collection for the first time include Rose Ann Samuelson, Elliot Orr; Lena Gurr, Megan Hinton and Craig Brodt.
