Lawrence Fine Art will open "Larry Wolhandler: Bardic Aspirations" at its East Hampton Gallery on Saturday, October 10 with an opening reception from 6-8 pm. The opening takes place the weekend of the Hamptons International Film Festival. The exhibition will run for approximately one month. This is the third exhibition of Wolhandler's work at Lawrence Fine Art.
"For us, Larry's highly conceptual work is almost as much about 'reading' as it is about 'viewing,'" explains Gallery Director Howard Shapiro about Wolhandler's work. "It asks us to look at how meaning is created through the use of line, color, point and spatial reference."
"At the same time," continues Shapiro, "Wolhandler's work is extremely delicate and reminds us of Japanese art in its emphasis on the transitory, ephemeral, its asymetrical composition and its use of space emptied of all elements but color and line."
Wolhandler studied at the School of Visual Arts in NYC before moving to Paris and studying at the Ecole des Beaux Artes. He spend 10 years in France and showed frequently before returning to the States.
