On Friday, February 12, Copley Fine Art Auctions, the nation’s premier decoy and sporting art auction house, will offer over 480 lots of the finest antique and contemporary decoys and American sporting art at the American Theater in Charleston, South Carolina. Copley’s sporting sales have led the field with first-rate offerings and results for the past decade. Highlights include a Carl Rungius painting of a Bull Moose ($150/250,000), Andrew Wyeth’s watercolor Pot Buoys ($70/80,000), a Willard Metcalf oil of Dory and Lobster Traps ($80/120,000) and a J.F. Herring, Sr. oil of famed thoroughbred Foigh-A-Ballagh ($10/20,000), a Canada goose carved and painted by the Ward Brothers of Maryland ($60/80,000), a sleeping mallard hen ($60/80,000) with Charles Perdew’s best paint, and the William B. Webster III Collection of sporting and wildlife art, including Aiden Lassell Ripley’s oil Woodcock by the Brook ($60/90,000).
